Echo Lake
Weekend before last we took a drive up to Echo Lake. I wanted to see the fall colors. The trees were beautiful on the way up. We took a picnic lunch and walked around the lake. It was a beautiful fall day here in Colorado!

It's snowing in Colorado!!!
I couldn't believe it when Mark said "Look outside, it's snowing!" It had began as a light rain that turned harder and then suddenly turned into snow. Alex rode his bike to school for crying out loud!
Every year we usually have a contest to guess what day the first snow will come on. We didn't even get a chance this year. It snuck upon us. Is snuck a word or is it sneaked?? Either way, you know what I mean.

Football and fossils...weekend update
I have a few pictures to share. I got a few pictures of Alex at his football game yesterday. His team did well. They have now won there 1st 3 games. Alex is doing well also. He was up against some really big kids (hard to believe how huge 3rd graders can be). He made several great blocks and 1 great tackle. I jokingly tell him every game that if he gets a bruise he no longer can play football. He rolls his eyes at me and smiles.
Today (Sunday) we went to the Rock, Mineral and fossil expo. Connor looks forward to it all year. He likes to go on the last day because that's when they mark down some of the fossils. Last year he got some good deals because one of the vendors was tired and ready to pack up. He had the same luck this year! Our friends, the Changs showed up there too.
a funny side note about the fossil show.... we were looking at the fossils and I made a couple of remarks that apparently showed my ignorance about fossils. Connor turned to me and in the most serious voice he said "Mom, why don't you go over there, there are some pretty and shiny rocks you could look at." I had to laugh, and then I proceeded directly over to the pretty shiny rocks. :-)
Alex's friend Alex came to his game.
Panning for gold. Connor wasn't going to do it at first then when Garrett pulled out a fossil, Connor started digging! haha

A little bit of football
For those of you who don't know, both of the boys are playing tackle football this year. Between both of their practices and games we literally have football 6 days a week. We have had 2 games but I haven't gotten very many pictures. Susie got a few good ones of Connor at his first game (I was at Alex's). So here are a few pictures.

Have you heard of Flat Stanley??
I have to admit that I haven't actually read any of the books but Alex's 3rd grade class did and they made their own flat Stanleys. I think the premise is that something fell on Stanley and made him flat. He was mailed to a friend for a visit. The kids all made their own and then chose someone to send them too. Alex chose to send his to Grandma Susie in Kansas. Alex sent it with a letter requesting that she "show" him around and take a few pictures. Well, Grandma came through BIG! She took lots of pictures and actually put together a scrapbook of her and Stanley's adventures.
Alex was so proud when it arrived back at his class room. Here are a few pictures of Grandma and Stanley.
Alex chose to make his Stanley a "Ninja".
Thank you Grandma!!!

Alex turns 9!
Alex's birthday was on the 1st. We went to dinner at Chili's (his choice) after football practice. After dinner we came home and enjoyed cake and ice cream. He opened his presents FINALLY. It was hard waiting all day I'm sure. I took a big cookie to his class also. All and all I think he had a great birthday!
Alex's class sang happy birthday to him. I think he was a little embarrassed but he enjoyed it.
