Mother's Day

I hope all you Mom's had a great Mother's Day...

We had a good day. We went to a movie. We saw "The Avengers". It probably wouldn't have been my first pick (haha) but it was something we could all see together. Actually it was a lot better than I expected. And you want to know the best part? The new Cappuccino machine at the theatre!!!   I mean having quality time with my three boys :) (but the cappuccino was great too)

Later they gave me some great gifts... including this bracelet that I love. The blue crystal represents Alex's birthstone, the purple is Connor's, the 2 little paws are for Skylar and Max of course (our other 2 kids) and the middle one represents Mark even though it's not his birthstone.

Check out this cake Mark bought. Don't you just love that picture? I do :)

Thank you boys for a wonderful Mother's Day! Being your mom is the hardest, most exhausting, challenging  BEST job in the world :) Thank you Mark for putting so much thought into my day, as always... you are the best!

The Movie Premiere

So last night was the big Movie Premiere! Connor's movie he's been working on most of the school year was finally done and ready to view. It was pretty amazing. The school really made it into a big deal. They made to be like a real movie premiere. We were pretty impressed and had a wonderful night.

So, first we pull up to the school and they have a big spotlight and a sign for the movie and a sold out sign. The movie sold out!! I was pretty surprised to be honest but they sold out really quick.

When we walked in they had a red carpet. The cast stood there and greeted people as they came in. They also had photographers like the paparazzi and interviews being conducted. They even grabbed Mark and I for a quick interview that was displayed on the big movie screen. I don't think that embarrassed Connor in the least (haha).

Connor was interviewed on the big screen too. When asked about his clothing he informed the interviewee that his shirt and and tie were from TJ Maxx, (true), the cardigan was a last minute addition he borrowed from his female friend Jamie. ( I would have never thought of him wearing a cardigan but I guess he pulled it off.. so funny). Then he added that his jeans were from Goodwill, which I will have you know that they DID NOT. I paid good money for those at JC Penneys! It's his other black jeans that I bought at Goodwill! HAHA

We were really proud of Connor. He put in a lot of long hours and hard work making the movie and I have to say it paid off. The movie turned out great.

It was based on "The Breakfast Club" movie from the 80's. Connor played the part of the "criminal" whose name was "Bender".  You could tell he had a lot of fun playing that part and it was so fun to watch.

So with no further ado.. here a few pics. I wish I had taken more but I was so caught up in the evening I didn't  (wish you were there Mom to take pictures, you are so good at that!)

Road trip

A couple of weeks ago we decided to take a quick trip to Kansas to visit everyone. It was spur of the moment and on the way there we reminisced about a trip we took there a few years ago this time of year, TORNADO season! We actually saw a tornado behind us that trip, when we were on the highway and when we stopped at a McDonald's for dinner, there were several storm chaser trucks in the parking lot and storm chasers inside eating. It was pretty exciting, haha

Well, this time the tornado came to see us once we arrived in Wichita. If any of you happened to be watching the weather channel that day, it was all about Wichita and the surrounding areas.

Some weather channel personalities even spent the day there reporting.

There were strong warnings all day and into the evening. At one point they reported that there was a tornado 3/4 mile wide heading for the Wichita metro area.

Growing up there, you get used to tornado warnings and sirens but this is as serious as I can remember it being. We headed down to Grandma's (Susie's) basement, Alex and Connor set up a snack station. We had our flashlights, candles...etc...  Alex was worried because Grandma was upstairs when we were supposed to be taking cover. He went to get her. She was getting all her important papers together. I actually suspect she was hiding all her jewels, shhhhh

The dogs didn't know what the heck all the excitement was about. I think animals sense these things though.

We checked in with everyone. At one point the tornado was headed right to the area
Grandpa Jerry (my dad) and brother were staying at Dad's  girlfriends house. It was pretty scary.

Grandpa Dick (Mark's dad) was with his girlfriend not too far from us. Honestly I think he was in bed..LOL! I think he figured if it got close enough he would take cover.

Luckily by the time it touched down it had lost a lot of it's steam and didn't do too much damage

Wichita, Kansas Tornado Damages City As Storms Pound U.S. Plains

Before the storm hit we got in some time visiting with Dad and Jerry. Dad let the boys try out is Martin guitar that he has had since 1970. They loved it.

Grandpa even played a couple of songs for us. It was so nice to hear him play and sing. It had been a long time.
It brought back good memories of my childhood.

Did I mention that the axe made me nervous?? Shouldn't we have protective eye wear and work boots? Again, just sayin'  In my defense Great Grandma Dot agreed with me.

In the flower basket hanging behind Alex's head there is the most perfect little nest of baby birds. Grandma Dot puts them out each year and this year before she had put them up the Mama and papa bird were out there chirping, so she went and got them and hung them up (there is another one on the other side). They got to work right away building a nest. Grandma even put some cotton out for them to use and you can see it woven into the nest. How cool is that? In the other basket there is a perfect little nest with several little eggs. They may have hatched by now. I wish I had gotten a picture of them.

Easter

I'm a little late with posting this but we had a nice Easter. I had wondered if the boys were outgrowing our Easter egg decorating tradition. Not to worry, they had a great time. We sat around the table and laughed and talked, it was really nice. I hope you had a Happy Easter!!

What has Connor been up to you ask??

Connor has been busy with rehearsals, filming..etc..  You know what they say "That's Showbiz!!"  
(oh boy if he sees this line, he's going to think it's sooo corny, lol. That's okay, I am definitely not known for my coolness anyway, especially these days,  so it won't be a surprise.)

Anyway, Connor auditioned for a movie his school is filming. They have a really elaborate tech department which Connor had the opportunity to utilize when he was part of the morning news. The tech teachers along with the Drama teacher came up with the idea of filming a movie over the course of the school year and show it at the end of the year. It's based on "The Breakfast Club" movie that came out in 1985.

So Connor auditioned and won the part of "Bender". It's the part played by Judd Nelson in the movie. I googled it and they called him (the criminal). I prefer to think of Connor's part as the "bad boy". haha

I was at the school the other day and noticed they have posters everywhere of the kids in their costumes, in a pose similar to the one above. I wish I would have taken a picture. I will try to get one next time. Actually we are going to try to get a poster to keep.

In the meantime he is also rehearsing for the Spring Musical. They are performing "High School Musical". Connor has the part of the Basketball coach who is also the main character, Zach Efron's (part) dad.

Connor is planning to continue with drama next year in High School, yes High School, sigh...

His drama teacher wrote a letter of recommendation for Connor to be able to start in Drama II, rather than starting at the first level. I believe that will mean Connor will have a little more of an advantage to be in more of the high school performances.
