Old Friends

I recently reconnected with an old friend. Monica and I met in Kindergarten and were great friends all the way through our senior year of high school. She went off to college and we kind of lost touch. I did get to see her briefly when she came to our wedding in 1987 but I hadn't spoken to her since. Come to find out, even though we are both from Kansas, she has been visiting Colorado every summer for many years. She has family here and they live about 10 minutes away from me! I couldn't believe it! We decided to meet for coffee and ended up talking for almost 3 hours! We had so much to catch up on. It was quite a walk down memory lane. I think there are just some people who are meant to be a part of our lives even if we don't see each other that often.

We laughed and cried and laughed some more. We talked about her being the first to drive (she was almost a year older than me, even though we were in the same grade). Her first car was a white VW bug. I LOVED that car! I still remember the excitement of just riding around with her and listening to the radio. It was great. She shared her memories of being at my house, sitting at the table and my Mom making egg salad sandwiches for us. We talked about loved ones we have lost. We talked about our kids and husbands. Before we knew it we had caught each other up on our lives.

I'm looking forwad to seeing her next summer!

Bloggy blahs... and birthday pictures

I guess I've had a little case of the bloggy blahs...... just haven't been in the mood to blog. I don't know why and I hope I get inspired again. I use to use the early mornings to write posts and visit my favorite blogs but now that I have a middle schooler my day starts much earlier so that hasn't been working... unless I want to get up at 5:00 am and I don't think that will happen anytime soon... Also between both boys in football and homework..etc. It's keeping us very busy.

I did have a birthday last week on Tuesday. We decided to wait until the weekend to celebrate since we had football practice in the evening. I still had a nice day. Mark and I went to lunch and then I just relaxed most of the day until the kids got home from school. We headed off to football practice but got a call on the way that it was cancelled due to wet fields!! We made a u-turn and went out for dinner. We weren't planning on birthday cake until the weekend when Grandpa (DAD) could join us but Mark surprised us with the cutest cupcakes!

Then on Sunday we had a nice lunch with Dad and came home and enjoyed ice cream cake!

Mark even had Skylar and Max sign a card!!

Sunday after lunch.........

First day of middle school ...

Monday was Connor's first day of middle school. It was a half day so Tuesday was his first full day. I got a picture of him Monday morning before leaving for school.

He really seems to be enjoying it so far. He said he likes changing classes. He has been chatty and excited after each day. His favorite class so far is "Consumer family studies". He's excited because they get to cook!!

What is it about that first day of school. I cry everytime and it always catches me off guard. I think I'm fine and then as soon as I see them walking up to the school.... well, it's all over. I watched Connor jump out of the car into a big group of kids. He started searching for a familiar face I'm sure. I couldn't keep spying because I was in the car pool and I had to drive forward, darn! I drove away thinking about his very first day of preschool.. didn't seem that long ago.

We also started football this week and between both boys we have practice every night this week and probably for the next few weeks until games start. Both boys coaches are older and very experienced. Even though they are stern, the boys like them and are anxious to learn.

Alex is back to school next week. Maybe I will have more time for blogging then.

Perfect Moment Monday

The other night we went shopping for football gear. Yes, it's time to rev up for football. I have to admit I'm having some anxiety about it. It's quite a commitment.. several practices a week and both boys are doing it! Also Connor will be starting middle school the same day football starts. Well, anyway, the boys were so excited to get their football equipment. We did a little shopping and ended up at at Play it again sports. It's a place that sells used sports equipment. We ended up getting used helmets and pads for the price we would have paid for one helmet retail. We were pretty elated and the boys didn't mind at all. They were so excited that even though it was late and dark outside when we got home they had to try on their gear and run around the back yard!

It was perfect because the boys were so genuinely happy with their equipment and we were happy to get it at such a great price!

Walking with the Dinosaurs...

Last night we went to see Walking With the Dinosaurs. It was AWESOME! It was so fun to watch the boys and the other kids around us. They all got such a kick out of it. I know it's kind of cliche but T-REX was really impresssive. He was huge and roared at the crowd. It was great. All of the dinos were very life like and combined with the lighting and music it was exciting. I know I'm a geek.. Mark even told me so half way through the show. I know more than a person should about dinosaurs but I really have no choice with Connor's passion for them. He has loved paleontology since he was 2 yrs old.

We weren't allowed to take pictures during the show but you can click on Walking with the Dinosaurs (above) to get the idea.

Waiting for the show to start
