I was talking to my Dad on the phone the other day. It was after school, getting close to dinner time. He asked what the noises were in the background. I stopped to listen to see what he was talking about. I said "Oh, well, Connor is chatting with a friend. Alex has a friend over too, they are playing in the basement. I'm getting dinner ready, the dog is barking a little because she wants to play and Mark is fixing something". He was quiet for a minute and he said "Sounds like a family, that's nice". He wasn't trying to be profound but his words were so genuine it touched me. I thought about how alot of times I wish our house was a little quieter but I really do take the sounds of my family for granted. His words changed my perception... so the next time you feel like your house is little too noisy.. stop and take a listen to the sounds of "a family".

He is SO right! Boys make noise, beautiful noise...as they should!
Bonnie, this is so true. I think my parents love hearing about my kids and all that we are doing because we are all grown and out and they remember it well.
Your dad sounds like a profound guy!
awww such a sweet post! You are so right.. stop and enjoy the sounds of family :-)
Bonnie - that reminds me of how I feel when Terra, Todd and the girls leave the mountain house. It is so quiet. Too quiet :)
I love my alone time, but I sometimes miss the "family times" of years gone by. Enjoy it! (I know you and Mark do).
That was a lovely post, and you slowed down to notice - I think it is great.
this is so true Bonnie -what a nice picture of you and your daddy!
You're Dad is a very, very wise man!!!
And we need to all live together again because my husband has forgotten what it sounds like in a house with FOUR KIDS!!!
