What I learned this week...

What I learned this week combined with my favorite quotes of the week.

Check out what others have learned this week over at Musings of a Housewife.

Just settling in for bed. A is at the foot of the bed on the floor in his sleeping bag (don't judge me :)

A: Mom, can you come down here?
me: Oh honey I just got settled in (with my book). I thought he wanted me to lay with him.
A: I just want to tell you something
me: I go down next to him.
A: I just wanted to tell you that I was messing around in class. We had to draw a body and I drew a penis on mine. I erased it but my teacher saw it and I think she might talk to you about it at my conference next week. I'm sorry Mom.
me: (feeling a little horrified but wanting to giggle at the same time, the things teachers must see). I say, well thank you for telling me.
A: I'm sorry Mom.
me: You do realize that it was inappropriate, especially at school.
A: I know.. but so and so drew an afro on his and he didn't get in trouble. EVERYONE was being silly..
me: Everyone??
A: yes.
me: again, you understand why this is inappropriate and you should never do anything like that again?
A: yes.
Me thinking: I bet his teacher gave him the option of telling me before she did.. At least he did tell me. I can't wait to see her at his conference :)

C: Mom, I'm sorry but I really don't like your new haircut.

me: that's ok honey. I got it cut short to get rid of the layers and color. It will grow out.

C: It looks like a bad wig... sorry Mom.

me: That's okay (he is so honest.. he just can't help it. At least he follows it with an apology, the little bugger).

So what I learned this week is that my children are NOT perfect and they may even be a little......obscene at times. "gasp" Also that they may be brutally honest but I'm pretty sure they still love me.

Hahaha! The price you have to pay for raising your sons to be honest! I'm sure you hair looks wonderful.

Several years ago when I taught PE, the middle school teacher pulled a drawing out of the trash. It was of ME with a set of bajingos that would make Pam Anderson swoon. We all had a great laugh over that one!

I'm glad your son shared that with you. I'm sure the day will come when my oldest will no longer want to talk/share info with me but for now, I'll take what I can get...the good, the bad and the ugly.

Ohh, my goodness...those are priceless moments! You gotta love them!

We teach our children about honesty and sometimes...it smarts just a little when they are brutally honest.

My son is 14 yrs. old and finishing his 9th grade year...he still comes home and tells me everything. I am going to enjoy it as long as possible. Right after he gets home from football...that is our "chit chat" time. I am still loving it.

Happy Tuesday!

I guess this wasn't one of those times when anatomical correctness was a good thing...

I love that your children are so honest. You son is like my daughter that does not want to dissappoint.....albeit my daughter is 2 1/2 =) she had gotten ahold of the new container of sprinkles for my other daughters first birthday desserts, and when I got home: "mama, I sorry, i sorry, big mess, sprinkles....mama sad?"....all before i could take off my jacket. I couldn't help but smile, although i had a mess of sprinkles her dad didn't pick up......

and I would totally love that conversation regarding the penis, although girls are so much more appropriate in school....right?!....I meen, we all have P's or V's, they shouldn't be so sensitive.....I hope she isn't making a special meeting, ooh my gosh, I will have to go to meetings? Can I just become friends with the teachers, then they can come over when there is a problem, or call.......=) good topic! Made me think, and obviously take up a lot of your comment space.=)

I'm sorry Bonnie, but you gotta love it -- kids and their brutal honesty -- being honest even when it comes to anatomically correct drawings! :)

And I'm sure your hair does NOT look like a bad wig.

And my Molly asked me last week when we were at the doctor (for me) if my doctor had a weenhur -- thankfully when he WASN'T in the room.
