N is for News

I am participating in Ms. Jenny's Alphabe Thursday.

Jenny Matlock

I try to avoid the news. I check my little google weather calendar every morning or ask Mark for the forecast. I find the news disturbing and negative! Call me pollyanna but I'd rather put my head in the sand. No, not really. I just figure if anything really important happens I'm sure to hear it from someone else. Is that irresponsible??

Mark bought a newspaper on Sunday. We hadn't had one in a long time. I did enjoy reading the gossip inserts inside and also enjoyed browsing the coupons but I didn't actually read the news.

I did enjoy watching the rescue of the Chilean minors a couple of months ago. It was very inspiring and heart warming to watch. I wish there were more stories like this one. I think there should be a good news channel and a bad news channel. That way you know what you're tuning in for.

Mark used to get a little "wrapped" up in the news. I would walk in and he would be talking back to the TV. I would give him an easy solution; just turn it off. Sometimes it worked.

Anywho.... Does anyone know who won the presidential election??

I admit to be a weather nerd.....and I love the news, I'm not as bad as my dad, who watches CNN or MSNBC all day. He is 86, so he gets to choose, lol.
The news can be depressing, so I can understand the aversion.

I've been avoiding the news a little lately, as well, but with this shooting here in AZ last weekend, I haven't been able to avoid it. So sad. Glad I found you today. New follower!

We don't have television so we do everything online...doesn't seem that bad when you have to actually read it for yourself.
But it's hard to swallow what's going on in the world.

I used to watch it all the time but I can't take it anymore. I am in the dark now and very happy about it.

I get my news from the AOL main screen that goes up when I login to check my mail. It used to be something I watched regularly.

I see you are an advocate of 'No News is Good News'...me too...especially when it comes to the paper. My husband reads, and shares anything really important. Local News on TV is a regular evening watch...that's enough for me. I like your idea of two realms of TV News.

HAHAHA! Love it! Years and years and years ago there was a good news news paper, but it went out of business because not enough people wanted to read it. Seems like negativity is the better seller. Everything I need to know is contained in the minute and a half radio news that they squeeze between songs in the morning.

The News are always the same BAD !
It's very very rare that you read a good News. I too sometimes have enough, I let Mr. G. watch and I learn a lot on blogs too, like now the floods in Australia.

I used to watch the news channels a lot. Now I just tune in long enough to stay abreast of current events. I can't take the constant barrage of negativity.

I'm a little head in the sand'ish too. Sometimes it's just easier that way.

I used to be obsessed with watching the news. I'd watch in the morning, then again at lunch, then 6 & 7 and finally again at 11. I found it so negative and didn't agree with my political views so I quit watching. And you know what? I don't miss it at all! hugs Nan

If you go to my blog, you would know why I am about to give up the news and leave the country!

There is nothing good on the news these days. It seems like they plot againist us. Even the Arizona shooting last weekend is turned into some sort of "if tragedy doesn't happen Americans can't come together"nonsense. I try to avoid it too. SO much of it is cut and dry and politically the good ole boys put pout there news that scares the common person. I personally turn my troubles over to the Lord. Plus I try not to confuse life happening with God. But I really looked this outlook you have here and hope you will come visit me too. Great N post! Anne

I have reduced my news viewing to one evening show that includes local news.I find that a steady dose of news is really a downer. The ostrich may have the right idea.

I'm with you, and avoid the news. My life is already a real drama, I don't need others..

This really made me laugh. I often share this exact same 'head-in-the-sand' attitude.

Some years back someone talked about starting a news show featuring only the good things in the world. I guess it never got off the ground...who wants to read about people being decent? Geez. What were those promoters thinking?

Sigh.

Thanks for a thought provoking post.

I think it was Nixon that won...but I'm not totally sure.

HA!

This was a nifty link....thanks for sharing it.

A+

Since becoming a mom, I don't keep up with the news as much as I previously did. I still like to be somewhat informed though!
